16 Aug Support for the Uniting Winter Appeal makes a real difference
In 2015, funds raised through the Uniting Winter Appeal made a real difference in the lives of children with a disability who were living in Out-of-Home Care across New South Wales. The Uniting Out-of-Home Care programs offer a range of short and long term care options for children and young people. An amazing total of $18,084 was raised with the generous support of the community, and has helped to provide invaluable support which has had a lasting impact on the future health, growth, learning and wellbeing of children with a disability living in Out-of-Home Care.
The money raised went towards many different aspects of the Out-of-Home Care program, including supporting children with a disability living in Out-of-Home Care to participate in art and music lessons. Participation in these lessons has been shown to lead to enhanced self-empowerment, confidence and self-expression. The funds also went towards tutoring children with a disability to ensure they don’t fall behind at school, as well as taxi vouchers to assist carers with transporting the children to appointments with Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Social Workers, to support their needs.
This year, funds raised through the Uniting Winter Appeal will assist young people who have been in Out-of-Home Care, and then transitioned to Uniting after care services, on the next step in their journey. Funds will go directly towards helping young people like Jennah build a bright future.
Jennah’s dreams of having a place to call home were realised with support from Uniting after care services.
